The Joomla Project is proud to announce the release of Joomla 5.0.3 and 4.4.3. These updates focus on security improvements and bug fixes for both the 5.x and 4.x series, reinforcing Joomla's commitment to accessibility, inclusivity, and robust web development.

Key Highlights:

  1. Security Enhancements:
    • Improved session expiration in MFA management views
    • Fixed open redirect vulnerability in installation application
    • Addressed XSS vulnerabilities in media selection fields and mail address outputs
    • Enhanced content filtering within the filter code

  2. Bug Fixes and Improvements (5.0.3):
    • Resolved CodeMirror fullscreen background issues
    • Updated translations
    • Improved error page message display

  3. Joomla 4.4.3 Updates:
    • Various bug fixes (full list available on GitHub)

Upgrading and New Installations:

Upgrade Path from 4.x to 5.x:

  • The upgrade from Joomla 4.4.x to 5.x is straightforward, not requiring a full migration
  • Most extensions will work with the new Backward Compatibility Plugin
  • Detailed upgrade instructions are available in the Joomla documentation

Important Notes:

  • Joomla 4.4 will be supported for 2 more years, allowing users time to plan their upgrade
  • A commercial security release (3.10.15-elts) is available for sites still on Joomla 3.x
