The Joomla team currently ships Joomla 5 with the so called Backward Compatibility Plugin to ensure a smooth transition. This plugin was specifically designed to enhance backward compatibility between Joomla 5 and Joomla 4. It's essential to note that the plugin automatically activates when you upgrade from Joomla 4 to Joomla 5 or during new installations. However, this plugin comes at a high cost in regards to server load and processing time. In numbers the plugin adds the following events to each and every request to your server:
- More than 500 php function calls for each request
- Loading more than 1000 lines of JSON data and analyse it for each request
We therefore strongly suggest that you attempt to run your Joomla site without the compatibility plugin. The good news: Content Uploader does not require the Backward Compatibility Plugin and runs natively on Joomla 3,4 and 5!
To install any of our Joomla extensions on Joomla 5, simply use the same installation zip file that you would use for Joomla 3 and Joomla 4 websites.
Our Future Plans:
Our dedication to delivering top-quality Joomla extensions remains unwavering as we look ahead. We're currently in the process to rewrite all of our our extensions as native Joomla 5 extensions, making use of the new core MVC API introduced in Joomla 4. This exciting development means that these updated versions will no longer require the Backward Compatibility plugin and will be exclusively compatible with Joomla 4 and Joomla 5.
Continued Support for Joomla 3:
Even though Joomla 3 officially reached its retirement in August 2023, we are committed to extending our support for Joomla 3 until at least the end of 2024. Beyond that date, our decision to continue supporting Joomla 3 will depend on factors such as the number of users still relying on this version and the challenges associated with maintaining support for Joomla 3 alongside newer versions like Joomla 4 and 5.
